Remembering Michael

I guess it doesn't matter what kind of music you're into these days... I'm sure somehow, someway, we can trace a part of it's soul to Michael Jackson. So as a tribute, my fabulous boyfriend sent me a radio broadcast from MJ's September 22, 1987 Japan show in Yokohama Stadium. Anyway, it's a two-disc live album, choc full of hits and surprises. Anyone who ever appreciated MJ at some point in our short lives can totally appreciate this album and take it to heart.

Track list includes:

Disc 1
1 Wanna Be Startin Somethin
2 Human Nature
3 Heartbreak Hotel
4 Medley Jackson 5
5 She's Out Of My Life
6 Things I Do For You
7 Off The Wall
8 Rock With You

Disc 2
1 Lovely One
2 Working Day And Night
3 Beat It
4 Billie Jean
5 Shake Your Body > Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough tease > Shake Your Body
6 Thriller
7 I Just Can't Stop Loving You
8 Bad

All live. All stellar.

i don't push people buttons

It's been a crazy ass week... getting my life together after moving to brooklyn with my boy. But here's a sick remix of Robyn's Cobrastyle done by RAC. I think it may even be better than original.. go figure... such a sucker for a decent remix. Happy June!

i'm not impresed by phoenix...

...however, this is the best cover of my favorite Air song. Romantic.

Playground Love (Air Cover) - Phoenix

Before Malone had TV On The Radio (garbage), he had Iran. He shouldn'tve ever made the switch. Iran is whimsical and bluesy, and this song was def. worth posting. Check out the album "Dissolver" by Iran if you like what you hear.

Buddy - Iran

cat power sound-a-like

It's been awhile since I posted some pretty powerful female vocalists. As soon as I heard Jane Vain and The Dark Matter, I immediately felt Cat Powerand Metric being channeled... as well as their Canadian roots. This is great folk pop, similar to music I'd like to make if I was half as talented. Check out C'mon Baby Say Bang Bang below, and my favorite Metric video as a plus ;) Enjoy.

new bmsr!!!!

Black Moth Super Rainbow's newest album doesn't debut until May 26th, but I got my hands on it earlier than expected. The album is terrific, a little less psychedelic, more melodic, but still the BMSR intense synth sound for the most part. I'm posting three tracks that have been circulating the webz, check them out and try to get Eating Us online now or come May 26th. Def. worth a listen if you're into their industrial synth sound... saw these guys live last summer and they're not only a great live jam band, but also put out super clean and musically interesting albums!!!

fabulous underground hiphop

Introducing The LC

This hip-hop ensemble, representing my hometown, is nothing short of feel good music, as their sophomore album is so properly titled. The Feel Good has some fun and youthful throwback tracks with explosively poetic rhymes. New school boys with an old school twist - kind of like if early Kanye made love to The Cool Kids. Their album is up for download via their Myspace. Peep the video and their posted tracks... perfect feel good music for spring!!!

music that parallels epicness

"Owen Cook directs and animates Beirut’s “La Llorona” off of their recent double EP, March Of The Zapotec/Realpeople Holland. The cinematography could easily pass for an Oscar-nominated digital short, though “La Llorona” will more likely be appreciated by the MTV2-insomniac-YouTube-loving set (assuming this alleged audience actually exists). With fluid illustrations of an uncomplicated, subtly poignant time, the video is an apt interpretation of Beirut’s sad yet celebratory waltz. The lingering notes in “La Llorona” seem left over from this simpler, more provincial era" (Et Musique Pour Tous)

Also to note: I'm a sucker for a wicked horns section.

La Llorona - Beirut

So the album doesn't come out until May 4th (in the UK... longer in the US?) but Peaches new album is being produced by none other than Peaches herself and the preview tracks are amazing! She supposedly leaked the three tracks herself, and can be also previewed on her myspace. More is certainly worth checking out, especially if you haven't yet been turned on to her durty style.

I'm not sure if Gang Gang Dance is classified as ambient or not... but you know how I feel about getting caught up in the language of music. They're hard not to like though, so give them a try.

karen oh, oh, oh yeah.

If this is the new sound we'll be expecting from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's upcoming album, [It's Blitzi 4/14/09] then we are surely in for an upbeat, dance-fueled album. Did Karen learn how not to screech like a little boy?! Amazing!

I feel like I should be sick of this song since everywhere I go in this city, Animal Collective seems to be playing. Regardless, here's a sick remix of My Girls def. worth downloading.
